Have you ever heard the phrase “Fake it until you make it”? It’s not necessarily bad advice, if taken properly. If you want to be a high level executive, and a respected one at that, you need to pay attention
to what they do, how they speak, and what value they bring to the company and the people around them. Do they drag on and on when they speak or do they get to the point? Do they encourage others or tear them down? How do they present themselves?
It’s easy to spot a fake. This could look like someone just reiterating the previously stated main points of the conversation back to the room. This might be someone who asks meaningless questions in meetings
and conference calls just so they can be heard. They might even call meetings that are unnecessary and take people away from actually accomplishing their work. Remember, the ‘fake it until you make it’ mantra only works if you are adding value to those around you.
On the other hand, it's easy for imposter syndrome to creep in, and make you feel like a fake, when you aren’t. Remember your value proposition - what value you bring to the company. Be confident! If you are
still feeling unsure, spend more time developing your soft skills - communication, leadership, etc.
2Actify is starting a new Technology Leadership Mastermind to help you develop your value proposition, develop executive soft skills, and practice presenting yourself confidently. You will work with a small
group of your peers to network, practice presenting, and become a magnetic leader.
