It's back to school for some. But the Class of 2017 may still be searching for a job and the reality of the career-seeking challenge is setting in. Those graduating in 2018 should
begin their career search NOW, as a “slow and steady” approach is much more effective than “cramming” at the end of the school year! And strategic online networking—NOT job boards—is the way to go.
Some job board applications can take an hour each, and in too many cases, are rejected by online algorithms and not even seen by a recruiter. Unfortunately, career-seekers who depend on finding a job by applying online may have a long and
disheartening wait: fewer than 1% of online applicants receive a response from their efforts.
In contrast, when you strategically network online and make new connections, YOU are in control of generating activity and building relationships to cultivate your own opportunities and referrals.
When you want to meet specific professionals, or want to work for particular
companies, learn how to effectively make introductions that lead to connections. You'll then ask for a phone call, and by practicing the additional techniques demonstrated in the 2Actify course, you'll soon be having conversations about opportunities, thereby opening doors to your future.
What are your greatest online networking challenges? "Bring 'em
on" and we'll address them in our LinkedIn group, 2Actify Networking and next newsletter!

If you want to expand relationships with ideal connections, then take the time to send a note.
Recently, I've received a lot of invitations to connect on social media. They have been
standard template requests without a personal note. Based on the single technique of introducing yourself with a personal note for new connections, you'll stand out from your competition.
As your network grows, you’ll want to maintain and grow those relationships and take the next steps. What are some techniques to make that happen?
Send an
article that may be of interest to your connections along with your note.
When you see notifications of your network's updates—such as a job change or work anniversary—reach out to them with a "personally professional" note. Make a comment and seize the opportunity for a conversation.
If appropriate and without being asked, send a recommendation to your connection about your work together.
If you have connections who can be mutual resources, introduce
them!
Staying in touch and always building your network will make you the standout candidate. When an opportunity arises, you'll be the one they think of!

Unlike responding to job boards, networking to build and maintain your career growth is a democratic process. A career-seeker's effective effort will produce positive results and generate relationship opportunities.
