You’ve led engineering orgs, launched
products, scaled platforms, led high value programs — and probably assumed your results would always speak for themselves.
But
then the market shifts. New leadership. Sudden budget cuts. And you're out.
Next thing you know, you're writing a post that starts with: "This is the most difficult letter I've ever written. I didn’t expect to be here, but I’m open to opportunities…"
It’s honest. It’s brave. And usually doesn't work.
Go ahead and write your letter, but to personalize your communication and be visible in a way that gets better results in a career search, begin with identifying the problems that your expertise solves. Then identify the connections and companies to reach out to.
Your value remains, but in this
situation, you can do better with your communication. From my expertise and the results for clients, I've guided them on to flip the way they approach their network and below are some recommendations for you. They work!
Now is the time to really be sold on your
value and impact. Believe in yourself and your network will, too. Be known as the person they think of when it comes to "X".
Remember that new opportunities will appear when you have your expertise narrative and the impact you've delivered in your memory so well, you can adapt it and pivot your responses directly to the challenges expressed by your contact.
Don't assume
that your connection knows the depth of their challenges. Ask strategic, open ended questions about what you see as problems they may be facing where you can help. This is based on your research.
Have an end goal for the call or meeting with your connection, then work backwards. Research, ask the right questions, steer them toward the realization of their challenge and be ready to discuss a possible
solution that includes you, because of your expertise.
Personalize your search...Ask for what you need now that you've delivered a confident response to their challenge. This may be a presentation with other stakeholders, an introduction to a team that needs this guidance, or someone in their network.
Learn how to navigate these communication strategies and you will improve your delivery, confidence, and be known for how you solve problems. It takes practice and owning what you know you can do that gets results.
There's no switch to turn it on super fast, but 100%, having a guide will get you there faster.

your RESEARCH----knowing what to look for so you can find hidden opportunities where your expertise solves their big problems...
