Changes in the career landscape have been fast and furious. You know the reasons, but the
fallout has been (and continues to be) difficult to predict.
I'm sharing a prior newsletter because job
security TODAY is a big concern--- more than ever. We're seeing emotional posts from those that surprisingly lost their positions and their attempts at a comeback.
IT'S DIFFERENT NOW, CHANGE IS NOT OPTIONAL
"The depth of your positioning is more effective than a broad approach".
Now is the time to
consider some fast changes to the way you've always conducted your business life---grab hold of what you're great at. Change how you communicate the specific impacts you've made that are relatable to hiring decision-makers in a job search or to the direction of your current company.
Let's define this further for you: SCHEDULE a time HERE.
This will be a call of impactfor you and is NOT a sales call.
7 STEPS THAT POSITION YOUR CAREER COMEBACK
You were on your way to career greatness when the unexpected happened. Your decision to change, their decision to cut back,
reorganize or modify has put your career in question. But...
"Real Leaders Don't Cave in"
"Leaders who cannot recover have a tendency to blame
themselves and are often tempted to dwell on the past rather than look to the future and get caught in a psychological web of their own making, unable to move beyond the position they no longer hold."
(HBR: Firing Back: How Great Leaders Rebound After Career Disasters)
It's not unusual for a professional in this situation to question themselves and consider accepting a next role that's down a few notches.
They cave. They are embarrassed and not exactly sure how to
proceed, but....
And this could be an opportunity to position yourself for an EXTRAORDINARY REBOUND...
Your direction and how fast you develop new career options will be dependent a few things...
Your ability to position and share your stories of value and impact
Being open to transformative action-taking in your new situation
Continually educating yourself for new options
Reaching out to your network to open doors in a more strategic way
7 STEPS FOR YOUR CAREER
COMEBACK
RECONNECTING-Your colleagues know what you're capable of (and if not, remind them). Time to get to know them better because they can be your best resource for introductions to the right people with an opportunity for
you.
NETWORKING-Widen your network by building new relationships to uncover hidden opportunities. Most times, it's how you strategize your outreach and the number of contacts you make.
VALUE PROPOSITION-Position and share how you create business impacts (get the value
proposition guide). When you present your value, you can get introduced to executives that can open doors.
STRATEGY-Plan your OUTREACH and positioning within
the companies and professionals you'll need to approach.
RESEARCH-Dig...Get to know the people, company, mission and challenges. Your questions will demonstrate curiosity and set you up to describe your expertise and get
introductions.
COMMUNICATION-If your network is convinced that they'll benefit by knowing you, they will be advocates and make introductions. Written and verbal communication skills are critical.
GET HELP (totally optional but worth it)-Take a course or get individual help so you have
guidance and perspective to make this happen faster and with less frustration. This is one of those actions that is worth the financial investment and usually has an extremely fast ROI.
You know all of those skills you have for leading, communicating value, collaborating and creating roadmaps?
Now it's time to position yourself for a FOCUSED comeback.
Rebound Higher...
Position yourself with a proven career-finding system and you'll have multiple opportunities to choose from.
