To heck with it - I’m going to give away one of my most valuable secrets in this email!
This is an interview secret I’ve been teaching my students for years, and was exemplified perfectly by a copywriter when I first hired one.
He actually used this interview secret on ME… and you know what? It helped win him the deal.
See (like in landing a job) copywriters are in a
very competitive market for getting hired.
Like most of the brands that look for talent, I was interviewing MANY candidates.
And this copywriter could tell -
He knew I was keeping my options open, because that’s just good business practice.
And while I won’t say using this technique I’m about to share with you is the SOLE reason he won my business over 10 other competitors - WOW did it help!
His
use of it showed even more evidence of why The 2Actify Method is so effective, and why it’s been able to drastically speed up time-to-hire for my clients.
What did he do?
With one simple question, he made his competition irrelevant.
How?
By painting his unique value as the clear and superior choice –that– without having the essence of this unique value in my campaign, would leave lots of money on the table for
me.
And the way he put it really stuck with me.
To show you what I mean, here’s a loose transcript of our call (With parts redacted for privacy reasons):
Him: “So you’ve spoken to 5 other copywriters, and tried X, Y & Z . Have any of them mentioned anything about incorporating [unique value] to their campaigns?
Me: “No… Why do you ask?”
Him: “Well that’s likely why you’ve been seeing
poor promo results consistently. With your super sophisticated market - good copy & a good offer won’t cut it anymore - you simply have too many direct and indirect competitors in your ideal client’s inbox, selling them on better offers, better prices, and better copy.
You’re at a point in the market where the only real secret weapon you have left is intimacy in your sales process.
So you’ll really want to make sure that going forward - you
have lead scoring set up to identify who are your op 100, highest-intent, pre-buyers, and help nurture them with each promo - on top of the good copy and offer.
Do this properly and you’ll easily double your campaign sales.”
This was a mindblowing interview technique.
In less than 10 seconds, he:
1. Dropped his unique value proposition
2. Demonstrated unique expertise in my goals
3.
Shared insight into why past (and future) attempts fail
4. Shared a simple gameplan (with his unique perspective)
Now I didn’t hire him on the spot.
I wanted to, but I still had more people to speak to after him.
But I kept those insights he shared with me in the back of my mind.
And every other copywriter I spoke with - I brought up the topic of his secret sauce and asked if they had any insights on
it.
Most of them said yes, but when I pressed them on it - it was clear they only had surface level experience compared to him
So even though he didn’t close on the call - he made all his competitors irrelevant. All from a 10 second interaction.
Now, you COULD have a go at this out on your own!
But I will say, baseline knowledge of this technique isn’t enough to guarantee you get hired. Not without:
❌
An articulation of exactly WHAT your unique value proposition is (in layman’s terms, so that it doesn’t go over the hiring manager/CEO’s head. You have to speak in terms of outcomes..).
❌ Knowing how to position yourself for authority in any interview, so you can ask the pertinent questions and leverage insights like what the company’s TRUE goals are (They don’t want to fill a position just for the sake of it).
❌ A clear communication framework that aligns
your unique value with their explicit goals and targets seamlessly.
Not to mention - if you want to get multiple interview opportunities coming to you from your network, then guarantee you land an interview, you’ll also need:
✅ A Structure and process for getting key players in your network onto calls in a natural “win-win” way (especially if you’re an introvert).
✅ A framework that helps you “close” every career-related conversation
you have so that your network takes action on finding the right opportunities for you.
✅ A clearly defined personal brand that pre-sells you to the hiring manager so that they trust you from the get-go and and can already see themselves hiring you (cuts your time to hire in half, and makes the interview 10X more comfortable and “friendly”)
So let me be clear, this process is POWERFUL, but knowledge of it alone will not turn the tides in your favor
(especially if interviewing with larger companies, who are notorious for taking things slow, and dragging out the process)
