With the holidays in our midst, it's natural to relax a bit and anticipate that next year holds a new promise.
It can, with some planning and effort.
And, you can
still enjoy the holidays!
Holidays Can be the Best TIme to Develop a Robust Network and Rekindle Relationships
And...your career in 2024 can be a reality if you begin planting the seeds
right now.
There's still
time to start your career search and take advantage of networking opportunities right now. In fact, I have quite a few new clients that are either preparing now so that 2024 produces a lot of career activity and gets them closer to the transition they're ready to make.
You never really know what's out there until you're looking to see what may be out there!
What can you do to charge up your 2024 career prospects (while your competition is
distracted)?
STEP 1:
Identify your Value Propositions. What have been the most impactful business achievements you've made over the years? Create your statements that articulate the impact you've made and how you can define your ROI. The worksheet explains how to identify your value proposition and provides examples.
STEP 2: Create a list of connections that you've worked with and have experienced how you plan and execute the work you've done. Reach out to those that have endorsed or recommended you including colleagues, customers, and partners.
Schedule a time to rekindle that relationship and in your communication, make sure your approach indicates that both of you will benefit (video call, phone call, or in person). Below are template
messages you can use to ask for a reconnection.
STEP 3: Attend Networking Events that would allow you to build the right connections. You'll be using your value propositions to communicate your expertise and be a resource for those you meet. You'll discover possible new introductions your connection will make for you.
Make the most of the event through preparation. You can schedule meetings with the right connections using the strategy outlined in this 2Actify
tool:
STEP 4:Research before you reach out. Go into a call with a strategy and planned outcome. When you research what a connection and their company is up to (and the challenges), you can strategize the call to be a possible resource. In turn, you may be introduced to an interesting hidden opportunity.
STEP 5: Follow-up with your connections. That speaks millions about your leadership, communication, and fearless networking. You're leading by example and an inspiration for others.
Do you consider yourself a strategic communicator when it comes to "you the professional" in a career search?
Many executives are strong communicators when they are representing their company, but there's a different
reality when they are looking to move up and out to something better.
The curtain of their position in the company is gone. In many cases, knowing how to confidently present themselves based on their business value and impact is a challenge. They have to depend on their ability to strategically communicate that information.
Is this a situation you can relate?
